Hello! My name is Donna Morris, and I am your library media specialist. Before I came to Daniel Boone, I taught second grade at Kirksville for 6 years and one year at Berea Community Elementary as a 1st/2nd spilt classroom. I am only the fourth librarian at Daniel Boone Elementary. At the end of the 2023 school year, I will have completed my 24th year in education.
I was born in Lexington, KY, but was raised in Richmond, KY. My brother and I attended Daniel Boone in the late 1970s and 1980s.! I graduated from Madison Southern High School. attended the University of Kentucky, graduated and earned a Bachelors, Masters, and Rank I degrees from Eastern Kentucky University.
I have two fantastic children, Sara and Jackson, a wonderful husband, Daryn, dogs, Sparkles & Molly. When we aren't at home spending time together, you can find us at church, soccer practice, the pool (year-round), the ski slopes (in the winter), or traveling to a new adventure or visiting family. I love to go to ballgames of pretty much any sort. A few of my favorite teams are the UK Wildcats, EKU Colonels, Cincinnati Reds & Bengals, and the Kansas City Chiefs!
Since becoming a librarian, I have been very active in my professional organization at the local, state level and most recently national level. I have served as president twice of Central Kentucky Association of School Librarians (CKASL), currently I hold the office of secretary treasurer. My involvement at the state level has been as webmaster and co-chair of our summer professional development day, known as the Summer Refresher, and currently I serve as the Intellectual Freedom Chair. In 2019, I was awarded the Kentucky Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Award. In 2020, I was award the Intellectual Freedom Award by the American Association of School Librarians. This school year, I have joined a cohort with KEDC's HERO grant - So, in a nutshell you can say - I LOVE LEARNING!
